Recently I have been able to rediscover Masks and their relationship to improv. You see I got my hands on some masks from Chile. And Keith Johnstone used masks to teach status and characters and I've used them over the years in different capacities when I went to Mime Mask and movement classes with Ron East's school, I saw and felt the power they have. A lot of iconic characters are based on Commedia dell’arte archetypes which would include these type of masks. Masks are an excellent tool for teaching body, character and status. The early days of Theatre Sports when my team played we would pull out the masks and always steal the game, they were the secret weapon. Now I felt that this form is being forgotten and lost in the improv world.
But I have the fortune of meeting this woman named Monica whose mask show I am directing while she is here from Chile, When she leaves the mask will leave as well. But this is a chance for people to work with these wonderful masks. I want to do a full day workshop .Please let me know or pass this onto some young performer who wants to learn something a little different, The full day workshop is six hours with a lunch break. The workshop is July 29 Sunday Noon to 7pm. And is $60. Lunch not included, lol
