Effortless Clown - An irresponsible and irresistible spa for you and your clown
In the path of clowning, there are phases where we care a lot, try to be good, put in a lot of impatient effort and expect results. And there are also phases to take a break and remember that real play comes from an irresponsible place.
What is effortless clown? It’s a space reconnect with play with no responsibility - free impulsive clown play. Not to care much, because there’s no need to. How? Using quite a few paradoxical clown games in which by losing you win, by getting lost you find your clown more alive than ever.
Clowns are normally very connected and reactive to the outside stimuli of their audience. They may become a bit too needy, afraid to risk and fail, or just automatically going for the quick confirmation that what they do “works” or provokes a laugh.
But they can also listen inside and relearn how to follow and enjoy simple impulses coming from the body, fantasy or plain curiosity. Not being less funny when they do it, and actually becoming more surprising by controlling less.
In the second part of the workshop, we'll use the connection to this state of impulsivity and permission to delve into opening our inner sensations, thoughts and reactions to the audience when there's pressure involved. How to remain irresponsible when there's pressure to be responsible and do things well? We'll be playing around this question in the end.
