Want to be a beautiful idiot? Let’s get some reps in.
This workshop builds on clowning fundamentals to explore how we can turn an empty stage into a place of confident action, where we make people laugh from their bellies, even (and especially) when we have no idea what we’re doing there. We’ll set aside our improv expectations around scene work, clever lines, and the fourth wall and instead go searching for what makes each of us organically ridiculous. Most importantly, we’ll sharpen our sensitivity to the audience while we embolden ourselves to take risks in even the iciest of performing environments. Expect trial and error and trial and error and trial and error.
Some clown or improv experience is recommended. Participants will be given on-the-fly feedback throughout the workshop, while also being asked to work quickly and embrace moments of uncertainty—so the more ready you are to dive in, the more we can play, fail, and discover together as a group.
